Motivation
This topic is embedded in the project of measuring blood flow intraoperativly with an optical system (surgical microscope). The blood flow is important to assess the tissues perfusion. In case of hypoperfusion the function of the tissue cannot be maintained and irreversible damages are possible. Three main factors are crucial for estimating the flow: The cross-sectional area, distance traveled and time needed to pass the distance. The first two are geometrical parameters and the last one temporal. The geometrical parameters will be in the focus of this work! Especially their tolerance to changing the focus level is of interest.
First of all the theory will be revised, afterwards lab test (here or at ZEISS MEDITEC AG) will validate the theory in praxis.

Project description
This project consists of a literature research on basic optics (μm/pixel) and the calculation of focuslevel depending tolerances of the estimation. The implementation is done in MATLAB.

Short:
Calculation of the image scaling based on optical properties of the recording system. Determination of the tolerance depending on the focus level.
