IBT researches in collaboration with the University Heart Centre Freiburg have published a paper comparing unipolar and bipolar voltage mapping for localisation of atrial substrate.
Whilst bipolar mapping is currently the standard technique, unipolar thresholds that yielded the highest concordance to the bipolar low voltage areas were identified. The impact the electrode distance, anatomical region of the left atrium and the extent of low voltage substrate had on the correlation were additionally explored. A high correlation was found between the mapping modalities when the patients were mapped during both sinus rhythm and atrial fibrillation.
The paper was published in Frontiers in Physiology journal and is freely available.
