IBT at PTCOG: Driving Innovation in Particle Therapy

From June 8th to June 13th, 2026, the BIMS team from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBT) at KIT was proud to participate in the PTCOG conference in Deauville, France. As the premier global gathering for particle therapy, the event provided an ideal stage for our team to present our latest advancements and engage with the international scientific community.

Highlights from the IBT Delegation
Our group contributed significantly to the scientific discourse, showcasing diverse research efforts aimed at pushing the boundaries of precision in therapy and imaging:

  • Beatriz Cruzeiro presented our work on helium imaging, highlighting its potential for contrast-enhanced imaging of soft tissue using iodine.
  • Jonathan Frömel shared our latest research on proton imaging, focusing on free-breathing radiography.
  • Dr. Alexander Pryanichnikov showcased a dual-energy extraction method designed to refine both therapy and imaging accuracy.

Connecting and Collaborating
Beyond the presentations, the conference served as a vital forum for collaboration. The sessions led to extensive, high-level discussions with fellow experts, providing valuable feedback that reinforces the relevance of our work within the broader landscape of particle therapy research.

"It is always encouraging to receive such insightful feedback from our peers," the team noted. "Seeing how our research fits into the wider efforts of the global particle therapy community motivates us to continue striving for clinical excellence."
The team returned from France with new perspectives and strengthened international ties, ready to apply these insights to our ongoing projects at IBT.
