Expanding Expertise: IBT at the CERN Accelerator School
Following their participation at PTCOG, the momentum continued for our team as Beatriz Cruzeiro and Jonathan Frömel attended the prestigious CERN Accelerator School (CAS) on Medical Accelerators, held in Latvia from June 16th to June 26th, 2026.
An Intensive Deep Dive
The two-week program offered an immersive look into the technical foundations of modern particle therapy and accelerators technologies. To master the complexities of the field, our team engaged in a rigorous curriculum featuring:
-38 hours of expert-led lectures covering linear accelerators, cyclotrons, and synchrotrons.
-10 hours of hands-on case studies and specialized seminars.
-Technical excursions to the Nucleo facility and the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, providing a critical link between accelerator design and clinical application.
-A dedicated poster session for networking and knowledge exchange.
We are particularly proud that Jonathan Frömel was selected to receive a student travel grant to attend the course, a testament to his dedication and the high caliber of his ongoing research.
The program provided a comprehensive overview of the particle therapy lifecycle, from the production of radioisotopes to advanced medical imaging workflows. By connecting with leading global experts and peers, Beatriz and Jonathan have gained invaluable insights that will directly enhance our projects at IBT.
We look forward to seeing these new perspectives reflected in our future work as we continue to push the boundaries of medical accelerator applications.
