The Institute of Biomedical Engineering welcomes Jonathan Frömel as a new research associate. Since November 2026, Jonathan Frömel has been working in the BIMS research group on the EU project IMPACT-OC.
Together with ten European partners from clinical practice and research, IMPACT-OC is developing an interpretable AI platform to support tumor boards in ovarian cancer care. At IBT, the focus is on federated learning: models are trained locally at the participating hospitals, and only encrypted model updates are shared. This makes multi-center data usable without sensitive patient data ever leaving the hospital.
Jonathan Frömel studied Mechatronics and Information Technology at KIT and specialized in Biomedical Engineering in the master’s program. The master’s thesis was already carried out in the BIMS group, where Jonathan Frömel had previously worked as a student assistant.
