IBT at WCCM-ECCOMAS 2026 in Munich

With around 5,000 attendees, the international community for computational methods gathered at WCCM-ECCOMAS in Munich. Right in the mix: Stephanie Appel (CaMo) and Laura Stengel (IANM) with presentations on computational heart modeling.
Stephanie from the CaMo group at IBT and Laura Stengel from the Institute for Applied and Numerical Mathematics (IANM) represented KIT's research in computational heart modeling at this year's WCCM-ECCOMAS in Munich.
The major congress combines the World Congress on Computational Mechanics (WCCM) with the conference of the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS). Bringing together around 5,000 researchers from all over the world, the event is one of the central meeting places for the global community in the fields of computational mechanics, applied mathematics, and numerical simulation methods.

We contributed to the scientific program with two talks on computational heart modeling:

  • Stephanie Appel presented “A Synthetic 3D Biatrial Benchmark for Validating Anisotropic Conduction Estimation”.
  • Laura Stengel shared her results on “Comparison of Finite Element Approximations for Electro-Mechanical Models of the Human Heart”.

Beyond the presentations, the congress offered a great opportunity for scientific exchange, fresh ideas, and valuable conversations with the international research community.
