New Research Associate at the IBT

Ana Montañés is working on atrial fibrillation triggers and lifestyle-related effects within the TrackAF project.

The Institute of Biomedical Engineering welcomes Ana Montañés as a new research associate. Since September 2026, she has been working in the “Computational Cardiac Modeling” research group at IBT as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network TrackAF. Her project focuses on extending atrial cell models by incorporating autonomic nervous system responses and the effects of alcohol, while using P-wave variability, heart rate variability, lifestyle scenarios and ageing-related changes to inform personalized simulations of atrial fibrillation.
Ana Montañés studied Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering and later completed a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). During her Master’s thesis and subsequent research work at the Center for Research and Innovation in Bioengineering (Ci2B) at UPV, she worked on personalized pediatric whole-heart models and electromechanical simulations to study right bundle branch block (RBBB) scenarios in collaboration with the Pediatric Cardiology team at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital.
