On 28 and 29 October 2026, the partners of the Horizon Europe project UNCAN-Connect met in Barcelona for their Annual Meeting. Maria Francesca Spadea and Mark Arndt traveled there to represent the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (IBT) at KIT.

The meeting brought together researchers from across Europe to review progress, align on the next project steps and discuss how data and methods can be shared across institutions. For the IBT, it was a valuable chance to present our OCT-based imaging work on tumor spheroids and to strengthen collaborations with our international partners.

A highlight of the program was a visit to the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona. In its control center, live dashboards show hospital capacity and patient flow across the region, an impressive example of how data can be used in everyday clinical care.

We thank the organizers for the warm hospitality and look forward to the next steps in UNCAN-Connect.
